6 new movies out this week: The Fabelmans and more! – Fan screw | Episode Movies

Wondering what new movies are coming out this week? Just in time for the long bank holiday weekend, we have a slew of new films including a post-war drama, an animated feature from Disney, a twisted love story and an uplifting tale about a groundbreaking pilot.

Steven Spielberg gives us a film based on his childhood and his fascination with filmmaking The Fabelmans. We are allowed to embark on a new adventure at Disney’s strange world. Luca Guadagnionos bones and all brings the audience an unexpected romance. And we also have a historical drama about a young man who broke through barriers in the military dedication.

Here’s the full list of new movies hitting theaters this week, as well as movies releasing on the major streaming platforms.

The Fabelmans (2022)

Summary: The Fabelmans is about growing up in Arizona after World War II, where Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) begins making home movies and learns how the power of film can help us discover the truth about each other and ourselves.

What to look out for: The film is inspired by the childhood of filmmaker Steven Spielberg.

word on the street: The shorts that Sammy makes are based on scenes from 8mm films that Spielberg made as a child.

My take: I love the fact that the cameras Sammy uses in the film had real film in the camera supports to make them look real to Gabriel LaBelle.

Strange World (2022)

Release date: In cinemas nationwide on Wednesday, November 23, 2022

summary: strange world It follows Searcher (Jake Gyllenhaal), the son of legendary explorer and all-round hero Jaeger Clade (Dennis Quaid). Ever since his father died when he was young, Searcher has been trying to leave that life behind. However, the world must be saved, and now Searcher must lead his family of explorers on a mission to find a special, possibly spooky creature and maybe save the world.

What to look out for: In addition to Gyllenhaal and Quaid, the cast includes Jaboukie Young-White, Lucy Lui and Alan Tudyk.

word on the street: The film was co-written by Qui Nguyen, who won a Daytime Emmy for his writing on the PBS series pen+cat.

My take: What’s better than watching a Disney animated film while on vacation?

Bones and Everything (2022)

Summary: in the bones and all, Maren (Taylor Russell) is a young woman who was abandoned by her father and is on the run. Maren meets Lee (Timothee Chalamet) and Maren quickly discovers they share a deep, dark secret. A secret Maren thought she was the only one who had.

What to look out for: The film won two awards at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, including the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress for Taylor Russell.

word on the street: The film is based on Camille DeAngelis’ award-winning novel of the same name.

My recording: I loved director Luca Guadagniono’s Oscar-nominated 2017 film call me by your name.

Devotion (2022)

Valuation: PG-13

Release date: In cinemas nationwide on Wednesday, November 23, 2022

Summary: dedication follows Jesse Brown (Jonathan Majors) who does what many people in the Navy thought was impossible by becoming the first black aviator to earn his wings through the Navy’s basic training program. Now he must team up with his new wingman, Tom Hudner (Glen Powell), and wage a war in Korea that will test their skills and friendship.

What to look out for: The film is based on a true event. Lt. Jesse L. Brown was such a distinguished and experienced pilot that the Navy named a ship in his honor in 1973.

word on the street: This is of course the second film this year in which Glen Powell portrays a Navy fighter pilot. Powell played Jake “Hangman’ Seresin” in it. Top Gun: Maverick.

My take: I’m hearing great things about this film from other reviewers and it is currently over 80% on Rottentomatoes.com.

fantasy football

summary: fantasy football follows Callie (Marsai Martin), a young high school student who keeps having to move to a new town because her father, Bobby (Omari Hardwick), is a professional football player who keeps getting circumcised for messing around too much . Somehow, Callie has become the owner of a magical Madden NFL game that will make her dad a superstar not only in the game but on the actual football field. Can Callie keep the magic going for Bobby and his new team to win a championship?

What to look out for: The film was shot in Atlanta, Georgia, home of the Atlanta Falcons, the team that Bobby plays for.

word on the street: NFL Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez (who played for the Atlanta Falcons during his career) plays Bobby’s coach in the film.

My recording: One of my favorite singers, Kelly Rowland, plays Callie’s mother in the film.

Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams

Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams (2020)

Release date: In selected cinemas on Wednesday 23 November 2022

summary: Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams is a documentary that tells the remarkable story of Salvatore Ferragamo, who came to America as a teenager and became a shoemaker for Hollywood. He then left cinema, went back to Italy and founded the eponymous luxury brand that the world adores.

What to see QOr: Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese is interviewed for the film about Salvatore’s career in Hollywood during the silent years.

word on the street: The film is nominated for Best Biographical Documentary at the 2022 Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards.

My recording: I’m a big fan of silent movies. I can’t wait to see this little-known history of Hollywood filmmaking.
