If you saw the 1988 movie pasture, you’ll be thrilled to know that this American fantasy classic returns as an eight-episode streaming series from Lucasfilm. How will this story pick up where Willow left off after his original quest? How many familiar heroes and villains will return in this series set decades later? And who are all these new faces? New episodes of the eight-episode show will go live weekly on Wednesdays (around 3 a.m. EST for previous Disney+ originals).

What is Willow about?
In the film, Willow becomes the protector of Elora Danan, the baby prophesied to one day overthrow Queen Bavmorda. With the help of a powerful sorceress, he defeats the queen and saves the royal realm. The new series is inspired by this original story, but now Willow is a wiser mage who fights monsters and creatures alongside other heroes. You set off to save the prince, the twin brother of a new character named Kit, and the world.
Warwick Davis, of course, reprises the role of Willow, the film’s delightful heroine. Ruby Cruz will play Kit, who enlists Willow’s help to save her twin. Joanna Whalley returns as Sorsha, now Queen of the Kingdom. We also know that Erin Kellyman plays Jade, Kit’s best friend; Ellie Bamber is Dove, a kitchen maid who joins the rescue mission; and Kevin Pollak will be back as Rool.
The eight-part series went into production in mid-2021 and is set decades after the time of the film. It originally had Jon M. Chu on board as a director, but he resigned due to scheduling conflicts caused by a new baby and COVID-19 lockdowns. Instead, the series was directed by Debs Paterson, Stephen Woolfenden and Jamie Childs.
Will Val Kilmer Star in the New Willow Series?
Of course, we’re all excited to see if Val Kilmer, recognizable as Madmartigan from the film, will make a return to Val Kilmer pasture on Disney+. Kilmer has acted in many films over the years such as Top Gun: Maverick, tombstone, Batman forever and more.
Corresponding Yahoo, Kilmer played a significant role in the development of the series, but will not be seen on screen this time. Instead, we see Christian Slater, who plays a friend of Madmartigan’s in the new series.
After the original pasture, Kilmer married his co-star Joanne Whalley. They were married from 1988 to 1996 and had a daughter (Mercedes Kilmer) and a son (Jack Kilmer) together.
