Tom is the obsession of school teacher Marion and museum curator Patrick – both characters harbor a dark secret that threatens to have terrible consequences for all of them.

Who is in the cast?

Styles takes on the lead role in My Policeman, appearing as police officer Tom Burgess. Styles has enjoyed a thriving music career since taking the stage as a teenager in 2010 – once a key member of world-renowned boy band One Direction, he’s pursued an incredible solo career since the group’s hiatus in 2016.

The 28-year-old made his acting debut in the film about World War II Dunkirk and played in a number of roles such as eternal and don’t worry darling

Emma Corrin stars as schoolteacher Marion Taylor in the romantic drama, opposite Styles. Corrin is considered one of Britain’s finest emerging actresses and is best known for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the fourth season of The crown.

To round out the love triangle, we have Peaky Blinders Star David Dawson as museum curator Patrick Hazlewood. Audiences will likely recognize Dawson from his roles in TV shows like Year of the Rabbit, The Last Kingdom and Ripperstr.

How was the film received?

My Cop has received a number of negative reviews since its theatrical release.

Guardian writer Benjamin Lee scored the film only two stars out of five. During his review, Lee criticized Styles’ acting skills, describing his performance in the film as “dull” and “unconvincing”.

Lee said, “The film, based on the Bethan Roberts novel, isn’t exactly a flop, but it’s not exactly much either, a disappointingly drab and jarringly straight-forward love triangle saga, riddled with stealthy looks and soppy moping while undercut by a somber one becomes leadership.”

Independent author Jessie Thompson gave too my cop a two star rating. Thompson was critical of Style’s performance, claiming that “a powerful leading lady could have enhanced Grandage’s film”.

Thompson said: “My police officer has political importance. It is about individual betrayal, which only happens because of state-sanctioned prejudice. And it has the ingredients for something good: tortured emotions, a compelling triangle, and a message. But I kept thinking about what kind of movie it could have been with a really electric lead.”

IGN writer Ryan Leston gave the film four out of ten points. Leston claims the film has the potential to do well, but claims the greatest crime the film commits is “wasting an opportunity to say something meaningful.”

Leston also criticized the former One Direction star, describing Style’s portrayal of the lead as a “strikingly understated performance.”
